January 2: National Buffet Day
Back again for more riveting information about today's national day. I hope everyone enjoyed the information about National Hangover Day.
January 2nd is National Buffet Day. Like most Americans, I love buffets but hate that I wasn't able to enjoy them in 2020. National Buffet Day is the perfect day to come after National Hangover Day. Let's face it, in the US everything revolves around food. Food unites us. When we celebrate there's food, when we're depressed there's food; it might not be the best way to cope with the problems around us, but it's what we do.
Buffets are great because it settles the age old question: What's for dinner? My husband and I can spend hours trying to figure out what we're going to have for dinner which is such a monotonous process. So a buffet can be a great compromise.
The first modern buffet in the United States was debuted in 1939 in New York but originally started in Sweden in the 1800s. In 1939, the buffet was debuted at the World's Fair and displayed the best Swedish foods for fairgoers. The next year, in 1940, Las Vegas premiered their first buffet. Herb McDonald started the first buffet in Las Vegas and used it as a way to keep patrons in the casinos. Fun fact: The largest buffet in the US is still actually in Las Vegas at The Rio. I guess they're still using buffets as a way to keep people in the casino. In 1960, the cost of a buffet in Las Vegas was $1.50, prices have drastically increased since then.
I hope that this information is found to be fun and interesting which is really my only goal with writing these posts. For more information on National Buffet Day, you can visit nationaltoday.com.
